How (not) To Cook Your Laptop

MDub, a fellow blogger of mine wrote a great article on how to keep your laptop in tip-top shape when it comes to heat management.

I just wanted to add a quick comment to his topic.

Dust Is Your Enemy

Your laptop is going to be fighting a constant battle against dust from the very moment that you turn it on. Depending on how well it was designed in the beginning it may or may not handle dust better than other laptops. I have a big laptop at home that gets dusty 10 minutes after I clean it off — it just seems to suck the dust out of thin air! It got so bad once that my laptop actually became unstable because it was overheating simply because it was too dusty! When I finally figured out what the problem was I actually ended up removing a compressed blanket of dust that had completely blocked off the air vent.

To combat this you need to purchase a can of compressed air and blow your laptop out on a regular basis. Blow out the vents on the bottom and sides of your laptop so that air can get into the laptop and help keep it from overheating.

Your laptop will thank you for keeping it dust free!
