Multi-Tasking
I have noted a lot of people commenting on how I can move so quickly on a computer. Even now I am setting my wife up with accounting software while also writing this post while beginning to format a drive so I can use it at a computer appointment in an hour. I know you are waiting for the secret tip. The very core of what makes me good at multi-tasking on the computer.
The trick is as simple as this: practice. I have done most of these things enough times to be able to do them in my sleep.
If you want to learn how to be an efficient multi-tasker then you will want to step through the following process.
- Learn to do common tasks so well that you could do them in your sleep (random problems aside.)
- Spot (and write down if that helps you) any areas where there is extra time where you are not doing anything during common processes in your day.
- Practice using that spare time to complete another smaller task.
- Practice.
- Practice.
This list took you all of about five minutes to read. The process, however, will take you years to master. Here is the thing though. It all starts with something as small as giving it a shot. It really isn’t a hard process to follow. It just takes a little bit of time each day. Whenever you are waiting for your computer to do something, use that time to open up another project and run with it until you think the first process is completed. Then move back to the first process and get it going again and then return to working on the second process. I got to the point where I can have six or seven things going on at one time. It may sound mind boggling to you, but it is not that difficult because everything is ingrained into me from years of practice.
You can do this too!
God Bless,
