The World Is Not A Better Place Thanks To Technology – Or Is It?
The world tells us that computers and cell phones and palm pilots and all kinds of technology was created to enrich our lives. However I would hazard a guess that you think technology is a bit more like an extension of the curse of mankind. Instead of helping us, it just causes us to grow gray hair faster than ever before.
But we see more and more that people who have grown up with technology around them are able to handle it much better than those who have not had that luxury. As I put it, they have the mindset required to work with technology.
The Mindset Doesn’t Just Have To Belong To The Young
I firmly believe that anyone can possess the mindset required to work with technology as fluidly as if they had lived with it all their life. Learning this mindset just takes time, practice, and perseverance. Think back to how you learned some of your favorite hobbies and you’ll find the same methods you used to learn them can be applied to learning how to work with technology.
This Website Is For Everyone
From the technologically inept to the advanced users I am going to try and break down from a technicians point of view, how to make technology and the people using it work together seamlessly (Yes, the information on this site may just cure the PEBKAC error). I want to cover the more abstract ideas behind working with computers and other technological devices. These ideas are the unspoken rules of the computer savvy and will help you to take one step further towards conquering your computing woes.
Where This All Began
I work as a website programmer for my small company GoKolansky LLC. I found that more and more of my free time was spent in showing people the simple tasks that they need to make sure that their computers worked efficiently. People didn’t really need websites as much as they just needed someone to sit down and explain to them the difference between the right and left buttons on their mouse. Upon figuring this out I decided that it was time to put out some of the basics of what makes me proficient with computers so that I wouldn’t have to keep telling people the same basic things over and over again. This blog exists to enrich your life by helping you to overcome the stress caused by not knowing how to use technology.
A Little Bit About Me
I am Daniel Kolansky. I live in Northern Virginia (just 30 minutes west of Washington D.C.) I am a computer geek and love to play around with new (and old) technologies. Pretty much anything that has electricity running through it is at least semi-interesting to me. I have worked as a computer technician and a website programmer for about 4 years now but that is not where my portfolio begins. I have been working with computers since the ripe age of six when I received my first PC loaded with DOS 5 (Windows was not installed on that machine.)
My father works for a major oil company and during the years I was growing up he had a job where he basically purchased new computer equipment to test for the company. Translated this means he had a credit card and was allowed to buy all kinds of new gadgets. When he was done with the new tech he purchased he often would bring it home and I would get a chance to play around with it as well. This was what got me started with computers and I have basically been plugged into them ever since.
I have found that there are many people out there who are willing to learn how to use computers but there are very few people who have actually broken down the concepts of using a computer. Sure there are plenty of “how to” documents that go step by step through common tasks, but there are very few guides that explain why those steps are relevant to the task they are performing.
I found that I am quite good at writing both the step by step how-tos as well as explaining the why of them. And so after a while of doing it as a hobby I have made it my goal to make this site a major part of my business. I want to enrich lives by showing people the very core of common computer concepts, stripping away as much of the techno-speak as possible and showing people the most basic things about their computer so that they can learn to solve problems by their own abstract thinking.
So thats me. What about you?
Why don’t you drop me an email and tell me a little bit about you and why you are visiting this site. I have a form right here that will get your message delivered straight to my email inbox.
